Percentage Doe
Selected by Danny Thompson and Reggie Phillips
The shows are becoming more competitive and the quality is getting better each year. We have some great livestock breeders. Their knowledge has poured right into the meat goat industry. We agreed on the first pass as to the Champion and Res. Champion. At the same time both agreed that if one or the other saw it the other way we could agree on that to. We have two does that exhibit femininity with volume and capacity, along with breed character and still keeping with the basics of a meat goat (MUSCLE). Nice pair of does. CONGRATULATIONS to the two owners/breeders!

Fullblood Doe
Selected by Keith Smith and Judge Paulette Wohnoutka
All the does contending for the 2005 OnLine Show Overall Grand Champion Fullblood Doe are worthy of the honor. They each have good bone, top lines, width, and depth. Congratulations to their breeders! None of the photos lend themselves well to observing the pasterns. We like the Sr. Champion for 2005 Grand Champion. She has great muscle all the way down the thigh. Her wonderful wedge shape and feminine qualities move her ahead of her competition. We would prefer that she be cleaner fronted. The Sr. Reserve is our 2005 Reserve Champion. The photo is problematic at best but this is a meat goat contest, not a photo contest. The photo shows tremendous width in the chest floor. Even though her back legs are in a bad pose she appears to have very good width in the back. She shows mass without being over conditioned and, judging from the setting, she's a working doe. Her head is less classic Boer in appearance than we normally see. Although a "Roman" arched head is pretty, breeders tend to assign too much importance to it. It may be that the arch is where we as an industry got into trouble with bad bites.

Buck
Selected by Joe Raff and Marvin Shurley
A nice set of bucks represent the grand drive for 2005. We favored the grand and reserve junior and the grand senior buck. They are more modern in their design and profile and still maintain Breed character, muscle, bone and structural correctness. Of these we are going to use the grand junior for the Overall Champion. This is a real nice buck that is level design, wide, thick with a real modern profile. He is smooth shouldered sound made and very complete. It gets closer between the reserve jr. and grand sr. buck for Reserve Overall (lots of give and take). In the end the heavier boned more functional of the two in terms of structure will be Reserve Overall - the Senior Grand. Granted the res. jr. has tons of style and ‘look’, but in the end he may be too straight on his hind legs and a little more narrow chested then the sr. Again, very close between these two real nice bucks.
